To provide a state of the art platform for Social Innovation in the Blue Economy, using Human Centred Design Principles and Triple Helix Approach.
Key Concepts in Our Approach
-
01 Social Innovation
"It is the process of developing and deploying effective solutions to challenging and often systematic social and environmental issues in support of social progress… It is not the prerogative or privilege of any organisational form or legal structure. Solutions often require the active collaboration of constituents across government, business, and the non-profit world". – The Center for Social Innovation at the Stanford Graduate School of Business
-
02 Blue Economy
"The sustainable use of aquatic and marine spaces including oceans, seas, coasts, lakes, rivers and underground water. It encompasses a range of productive sectors, including fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, transport, shipbuilding, energy, bio prospecting and under water mining and related activities" – Vision 2030 Third Medium Term Plan 2018-2022
-
03 Human Centred Design (HCD) Principles
"It is a process that starts with the people you’re designing for and ends with new solutions that are tailor-made to suit their needs. It is all about building a deep empathy with the people you’re designing for; generating tons of ideas; building a bunch of prototypes; sharing what you’ve made with the people you’re designing for; and eventually putting your innovative new solution out in the world." – IDEO.org
-
04 Triple Helix Approach
"A concept that emerged in 1990s by Etzkowitz and Leydesdorff, interpreting the shift towards a growing overlapped relationship between the spheres of University-Industry-Government in the context of the knowledge society… It underlies that innovation and economic development depend on a more important role for the university and in the hybridisation of actors from university, industry and government to generate new institutional architectures for the generation, exchange and application of knowledge" – Triple Helix Research Group
